About Us – RASMAS
The RASMAS mission is to transform product safety and recall management across the healthcare supply chain through innovation and collaboration to drive best practices and serve the public good.
Our Story
Noblis created RASMAS to save lives.
In 2001, Noblis—a nonprofit organization with a unique mission to use the best of science, technology and strategy to serve the public good—identified the need for a user-friendly system that protects patients from recalled products in their facilities. The idea? Develop a simple-to-use web-based service that tracks all alerts and product recalls and have the ability to document all actions taken within the organization. To meet that need, Noblis officially launched RASMAS in January 2004.
The heart of RASMAS is the data and staff who are focused on cataloging, tracking, and confirming the specifics of recalled products, and then sending that information out to members.
Soon after officially launching RASMAS, recalls that took months to resolve were promptly completed in days, as RASMAS streamlined the cumbersome way that health care suppliers previously had communicated with providers. The use of RASMAS by many of our member healthcare organizations has reduced alert processing time by as much as 80 percent.
RASMAS is now a community over 17,000 healthcare professionals in the U.S. and Canada. From just a few hospitals, today eight of the top 10 hospitals on the 2010 U.S. News and World Report America’s Best Hospitals Honor Roll list are RASMAS members. These organizations have determined that the best option for recall management is a web-based service that provides alerts in a timely manner and includes complete audit-trail tracking and full accountability.
RASMAS members have expanded the service beyond its original mission, in ways not foreseen when it started. Today, manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers have joined RASMAS in order to automate product alert distribution and electronically participate in provider remediation activities, saving time, money and potentially lives. RASMAS members now come together in a neutral place in order to figure out new ways to increase patient safety, improve clinical effectiveness, and heighten operational efficiency.
Provider and supplier (manufacturers, distributors, and wholesalers) organizations are using RASMAS to manage the paperwork associated with regulatory inquiries and internal or external audits. Other benefits include improved workflow, better management knowledge of safety procedures, and reduced staff time.
